Road to Health

It is the thought that makes us health or ill. The  method outlined above to get rich or to overcome poverty also applies to remain healthy or to conquer disease. This also may be vied as the way to eliminate disease because in this world almost all men suffer from disease of one kind or the other in the curse of their lives. Some of the maladies with which we are afflicted are cured with simple treatment and some of are self-limiting. We ourselves are patients and physicians because it is the wish of god to keep us healthy and happy. Our own error gives birth to disease. Our first task is therefore to correct our mistakes. If we wish to remain healthy we must think healthy. when children fall ill, their mothers can think of nothing else except the disease their children are suffering from. The fear that hunts them around a clock is the fear of their death.

I have seen with my own eyes the more a mother tries to keep her children alive, the quicker the child dies. The curse of death is such cases has been her own thought. She always keeps before her mind the picture of that woman whose all four children have died within a couple of years. Now it is the turn of her fifth child of whom she is taking care in all possible ways but the child has, in the mean time, been reduced to skin and bone. The child's prognosis is not good. Physicians concerned have given up all hopes. The child died within a week. If all these events are caused by thoughts the question that arises is: why those the child die? There are many who come forward with different arguments. As you know, every mother wishes and prays for the long life of her child. But such wishes and prayers are over-shadowed by another trend of thought emanating from dark forebodings lurking in her mind. Her constant fear is lest some misfortune should befall on her child, lest it should fall ill, lest it should trip over something, lest it should be abducted. When the child is playing in the front yard, she fears lest a dog may come and bite the child. Or if some disease afflicts the child, the mother worries whether it gets well or not. She thinks what she should do if the child dies. Such negative thoughts on the part of the mother contributes to the illness of the child. She takes all external measures to keep the child healthy but fears and anxieties hunting her mind has just the opposite effect. It should be remembered that when opposite thoughts come together, the power of both groups is lessened. The strongest among them will finally prevail just as milk curdles when it gets mixed with a drop of lime. Similarly, good thoughts, however large in quantity are ruined when they come into contact with evil thoughts however little it might be in quantity. In this process, good thoughts are weakened. The reason why the child falls ill and finally dies is that the mother's good thoughts are less in number and low in strength compared to the evil thoughts which happened in the present case to be many in number and greater in strength. In other words, if you wish to keep your child healthy and long-lived, you must always cultivate good thoughts.
