Harm out of desperate thought

Image
There was a man who was always engrossed in desperate thoughts. He was of the view that the work in hand was not possible to fulfill even though it was obvious that it could be accomplished quite easily. Although he was capable of going somewhere, he held himself back thinking that the journey was beyond his capacity. The friends around him were good and they were willing to help him by all means but as soon as difference of opinions developed among them on some minor points he was in the habit of jumping to the conclusion that they were actuated by usual evil motives, that they were hypocrites and that they had no intention of coming to his aid in times of need. As regards the question of making money was concerned, he had a settled conviction that the job in hand is not going to make money. The work looked profitable but in point of fact everything was designed to cause him financial loss. His outlook was pessimistic, whatever the point at issue. Because of his gloomy frame of mi

Good result springing from good thought

If we really understand the consequences of our thoughts and our ability to influence others, and if we can really understand that the impression can be made on us by the thoughts of others we shall not have any moment left for dwelling on misery, sin, disease or death. If we can fully understand the harm caused to us and others when we harbour the thought of misery and despair, we shall have no reason to be frightened. On this subject, learned men and subtle thinkers are of the opinion that thoughts can never remain neutral. It will always end up in good or bad results.Just as a tiny seed can contain within itself the form of a 'Bodh' tree, a minor thought can yield a great result. If such is not the case, we can never improve our life and attain salvation. However, such is the blessing of God, the most benevolent, that he does not allow our thoughts to go waste. Rather he repays them with compound interest. Just as a small stream of water assumes the form of a roaring

Factors contributing to progress

Image
The Path of progress is paved with good resolution. The world owes its origin and continuity to resolution. He Who has come face to face with this reality is guaranteed to make rapid progress. The road may be beset with many difficulties but they cannot impede his forward movement. Misery does not dodge his steps in this world, He finds happiness in this world and the world to come. Th's world is the playground of will-power. It has come into being out of resolution. One who knows the truth of this matter finds himself always away from the mess of sorrow. When we know for certain that the joys and sorrows around us are the products of our own will they cannot make us much miserable as they could otherwise have. In other words. when we hurt ourselves the resulting pain will not be as acute as the pain we get when others hurt us. Interpreted broadly, this is what we mean when we say like-poles attract and un-like poles repel. To him who believes that the divine will is the orig

Curative aspects of thought

No disease find entry into our body by itself. It comes only on our invitation and that too, timidly. It is because we think more about the disease we think of it so deeply and play with it so constantly and persistently that we seem to wish for its onset. We ourselves invite the disease with open arms making it easy to sneak in. Our ancient sage has proved that God, the most benevolent and compassionate, has constructed the structure of our body in such a way that no disease can set foot inside it without our will and consent. The disease that comes in with our every inhalation goes out with our every exhalation. In the same way, most of our disease are expelled along with our perspiration and some are eliminated through urination. Some are reduced to ashes bu our body heat, some are destroyed by our will power and the bran power and some are destroyed by the circulation of pure blood. Similarly, several disease invading our body may succeed in having their way with the help

Bed-Side Behaviours

People visiting the sick people talk of other sick people who are suffering from various illness without realizing that it may aggravate the condition of the former. For example, when we fall ill, we tend to center on the particular disease by which we are affected to the exclusion of all other thoughts. Similarly , when we get infected by a certain disease, our whole attention is centered around that vary disease only. We remember various person who had suffered from it. Suppose we are suffering from conjunctivitis, we talk about only those of our relatives who have had it before us. We think of all our relatives who are still suffering from it. In particular, we recall those relatives whose condition are deteriorating day by day. And we get frightened lest the same fate should overtake us. When we have eye infection we only think of those whose conditions are gone bad to worse. We never think of those who got well and are now hale and hearty. Even those friends who comes to inqui

Way to the mental health

Mental weakness leaves every job only half done. Prescribed below are some of the time-tested methods for restoration of the mental health. The first requirement is sound physical health. To maintain sound physical health, it demands regular meal time. It also postulates a regular time-table for all other activities. For example, we should rise early in the morning three hours earlier than the usual sunrise (Brahmamuharata). We should bath and perform other bodily function according to well defined schedule. It should include the time allocated for the physical exercise, morning walk, meals and sleep etc. If performed regularly all these activities will have favorable impact on the brain. Tamoguni or Rajoguni types of food that cause a decay in the strength of the brain should be discarded. Intoxicants, in perticular, the peace in the mind by shedding off passion, anger, avarice and so on. And to be successful, evening prayer, pranayam (breathing exercise) and hold on to the virtue

Factors causing the weakness of the brain

Improper foods, polluted air, dirty clothes, unwashed body excessive thinking, and intake of alcoholic beverages, tight dresses, and tight shoes put pressure on the brain. Excessive physics excercise and total absentation from physical exercise both cause harm to the brain. To live in the midst of alarm and to assume a wrong posture while reading in something that harms the brain very much. Similarly if you do physical exercise while you are hungry and if you read, write or meditate deeply immediately after a heavy meal, it will cause damage to your brain and stomach because stomach attracts blood for digestive purpose and brain attracts blood towards it for mental activities. In case the thing we should remember is that no intellectual excertion should follow immediately after meal. In the same way meat, sour and pungent things, dry cereals, stale and rotten grains, slow digestible foods, opium, cannabis and other toxic drugs, alcoholic drinks like toddy, tobacco, excessive sexual

Brain Power

A person experiences the external world through the five senses organs with the help of fine nerves, which are connected to the brain instantaneously. These organs carry out their respective function. They are the conduits of worldly pain and pleasure. It s, therefore, most important that we keep these senses fully functional. Every sense organ is a specialized entity. One can not take over the function of another. Eyes. for example, cannot hear no can the ear can see. When we over stretch the built in capacity of an organ, it maybe damaged. When the organs are impaired, the message are instantly transmitted to the brain because a network of nerve issuing from brain encompass the whole body. No part of the body, is beyond the reach of its network except the epidermis, the hair, nail etc. A living being can have no idea about what is going on until the brain receives appropriate stimulus. If ant danger is threatens any part of the body the brain counters it. if you tread on a rope w
